Silverstone began its life as a World War II airfield and has a great sense of pride in its aviation heritage. It is now better known as the home of the British Grand Prix which originally ran there in 1948. The Grand Prix has now been staged at Silverstone every year since 1987.

Flying in to the World Championships

Only participants and official WAC aircraft will be able to fly in to Silverstone during the Championships. However, aviation visitors will be welcome to land at Turweston aerodrome, which is just 4 miles to the West, from where they will be able to arrange ground transport direct to Silverstone, just as happens every year for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. For details of this service please visit the Turweston aerodrome website
